A cap can be very beneficial to any electrical system and do not cause your alternators to draw more power than what your sound system already is. One thing they do is to act like a spring and cushions your electrical system. Like mechanical springs, they absorb unexpected changes and cushion the flow of current throughout the system releaving some stress on the alt. Now as long as you are running within your alt output range I would say you would be ok and a cap can aid in light dimming but don't use one because you think it will give you more power because it won't. Silver Member Username: Touche6784USA Post Number: 978 Registered: Nov-04 | caps are a ply becuase compaines, distributors and salesman make them out to be the silver bullet in terms of electrical problems in the car from a system drawing too much current. every question involving a cap has to do with a miseducated consumer thinking the cap will solve a problem that is really related to an alternator that is too small. so it is a ploy cause you are sticking a band aid over a 5" gash. |
Silver Member Username: Safe_crackerChicago, IL US Post Number: 777 Registered: Jan-06 | It is a marketing scheme, but the cap itself even without a HO alt can be usefull as long as it is NOT used as a band aid to cover up an inadequate charging system. "QUOTE"> you will find that caps dont do too much for you and they really are a marketing ploy to steal more of your money. <"END QUOTE". The fact you saying a cap not doing mush for you is false, and as far as people stealing money, maybe. A cap will do a lot as long as the ESR is very low and you have the available voltage coupled with enough Farads to cover the wattage you are putting out. Just remember, it isn't the caps fault sales people are stupid, lOl..Polo. |
Silver Member Username: Touche6784USA Post Number: 979 Registered: Nov-04 | i agree that statement was pretty wrong but you also have to remember we are dealing with people that dont know any better so they hear what they want to hear. when a company advertises that their cap will solve dimming lights the uneducated consumer will buy it thinking that their 2000W system will now work in their honda civic alt. we know better than that because we have the knowledge. once someone sees a cheaper alternative to solving a problem they are going to go for it. i dont think we have to go through the problems that a cap can induce to people that dont know what they are doing. anyway, i think the original poster ran away. |
