New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 1 Registered: Apr-06 | Hey all... U guys really seem to know whats what so hope U can help. I'm gonna put a system in my street rod & just want a middle of the road system. No competitions just a really good bass sound. I plan on a 10" sub (how big a box?)& 1 6x9 on each side inside the car, plus an amp for the subs & another for the speakers. What would you suggest? & do I need a capacitor? Or a larger alternator? Salesguys suggested a complete Sony Explod system with Pioneer amps. Not sure if I can trust them since they know that I know nothing.. Thanks in advance for any help! |

A single ten would sound eccellent, obviously not terribly loud, but excellent for a sound quality setup. I would not put 6x9's in either. I would go for a nice component set for the front, with no rear speakers. Give us a budget to work with. I doubt you will need any major electrical upgrades. What is the output of your stock alternator? |
New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 2 Registered: Apr-06 | Alternator is 100 amp. Problem is speakers won't fit in the front. It's a 1934 Ford pro street, and there is no room in the doors (only 2" between exterior skin & interior) or under the dash... it's a small car. Sony's not good huh? |
Gold Member Username: RedlinerWilmington, Ma Post Number: 1246 Registered: Jun-05 | I would go with 1 10"w6v2 or 10"idmax thats what it seems like you want but how much do you want spend and what ever you do!!! dont buy sony for car audio they are prob the worst and 6x9's wont be all that great you really do need a component set |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bWeddington, Nc Usa Post Number: 536 Registered: Jan-05 | I second charlies recomendation on subs. those are two great choices. You should have a prob with your alt. as long as you have a good starting battery. You could make kick panels for the component set. |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bWeddington, Nc Usa Post Number: 537 Registered: Jan-05 | SHOULD'NT have a prob with the alt. sorry. |
New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 3 Registered: Apr-06 | Now I'll really show my ignorance..... What exactly makes up a component set? I'm amazed.. Sony has a pretty good name in electronics but evidently not in car audio :-) |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bWeddington, Nc Usa Post Number: 538 Registered: Jan-05 | What type of budget are we talking about tho. |
New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 4 Registered: Apr-06 | Also they mentioned Visonik amps... thoughts? |
New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 5 Registered: Apr-06 | Budget complete with capacitor, wiring kit, head, CD changer, amps & speakers etc probably $1500 +/- |
Gold Member Username: RedlinerWilmington, Ma Post Number: 1247 Registered: Jun-05 | http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1090 theres just a random componen set not saying get it but they are just 2 midrange speakers and tweeters so you can stage your equipment so it sounds good and i've never heard of a visonik ap before so cant do any good here lol |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bWeddington, Nc Usa Post Number: 540 Registered: Jan-05 | Visonik is not a very good or reliable company. I assume you went to best buy/circuit city(or similiar store) which is why they recommended sony. 1500 is a very comfortable budget for what you are trying to do. |

Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bWeddington, Nc Usa Post Number: 542 Registered: Jan-05 | It might not be a bad idea to throw in some edead/dynamat atleast for the trunk. If not the door panels as well. |
New member Username: DabubsSt. Paul , MN US Post Number: 7 Registered: Apr-06 | The system goes inside... no trunk... and the floor is all carpet, and the walls and headliner is all vynil with pad underneath. One other question.... is Alpine not a good head & CD unit? |
