low tuned box are for more sound quality, 30-35 is considered low tuned. why is it louder to your ear? becuase lower frequency gernerate a longer sound wave, so they travel further.
25-35Hz is low tuned. oyu don't want to tune a ported box below the Fs of the sub itself. You lose any benefit to porting by doing so. Tuning for SPL falls in the range of 45-60Hz.
Tuning in the 50Hz range will be louder both on a mic and to the ears, but it won't sound good at all.
Tuning in the 25-35Hz range is more musical for a peak response range. Remember 20Hz is the minimum for hearing. Anything below 20Hz is below your ability to hear anyway.
But you can still feel it. : ) I think one of these days I am going to build a ported enclosure for my 15's and tune it to 20 hz(the FS on my drivers is around 18). Just an attempt at the brown note.
Sound is a compression and decompression (rarification) of electrons in a particular medium, for us it will be air. Every comression/decompression is considered a wave in shape and form unless clipped. The number of waves per second is a measure called Hertz (hz). Lower frequencies are made up of lower hz and such has lower amount of waves. Raising the amount of waves increases the frequency/hz and the sound pressure level (SPL). Now the number of waves has absolutely nothing to do with the strength or power, the height of the wave does. Just like at a lake/ocean a single wave of a medium height hits the shoreline it does little damdage. Now if you increase the number of waves at the same level, pressure on that particular medium (shore) increases and if you add waves that are higher (more power) the pressure increases even more (at the same number of waves). This is a crude representation but it is meant for more to understand, lol. Hope this helps...Polo.

I hate that saying, "brown note", makes me think of brown eye, lol...
