Silver Member Username: Jprix82Post Number: 312 Registered: Jan-06 | i heard shaving wires make them lose power? |
Gold Member Username: B101Queen City, NC USA Post Number: 1622 Registered: Sep-05 | if u shave the tip, u not really loosing power... the wire is still thick enough for the current travel 10ft..... so most potential is still goin to be right by the tip, to get technical.. it wouldnt make a noticeable diffrence, trying to keep it simple, like I always do.. hehhe |
Silver Member Username: Jprix82Post Number: 313 Registered: Jan-06 | what you mean by shaving the tip? |
Silver Member Username: Terry6405Sullivan, IN US Post Number: 547 Registered: Sep-05 | i dont like shaving the tip, you get razor burn and it hurt when you peee or whack off hehe |

Bronze Member Username: PalanzaPost Number: 59 Registered: Dec-05 | "Is there any way to make 1/0 ga fit it a 4 ga amp terminal?" Dont bother using 1/0 ga wire then - if your terminal is 4ga. Think about it logically - if u needed 1/0 ga, the terminal would be 1/0. If it was passing so much power that u needed 1/0, the terminal would be 1/0. .. never understood why people get so wild with 1/0 wire.. oye.. |

Silver Member Username: Jprix82Post Number: 319 Registered: Jan-06 | how would i still lose current if i use the adapter? |
Gold Member Username: TheelfkeeperStockbridge, GA USA Post Number: 1334 Registered: Feb-05 | kinda depends on what your hooking it to and how the contact is made. think of the typical water example. if you have water flowing through a 2 inch pipe, then it reduces down to a 1 inch, you can't force as much through the pipes. |
Silver Member Username: GeekbikePost Number: 425 Registered: Dec-04 | Electricity doesn't work like water, so the pipe example isn't very accurate. If you want to get technical, you'll only end up seeing about a 0.0000525V difference if you used 4g wire for a 1/2 inch versus 1/0g all the way. With regards to current, you will have absolutely zero difference between them. If you disagree, open up your amp and look at the wires coming from the power terminals. They won't be near the size of the power wires. It's always a better idea to buy more than you need if you are going to upgrade in the future. Overkill now will save you money in the end. |

So your saying their wouldnt be a difference if i used 1/0 ga with that adapter vs 4 ga all the way? |
Silver Member Username: GeekbikePost Number: 426 Registered: Dec-04 | I was meaning by just cutting the wire to fit. Go with 1/0 and don't even bother with an adapter. |
Silver Member Username: Jprix82Post Number: 321 Registered: Jan-06 | oh ok so ill just run 1/0 ga and trim it to fit in the terminal |

Post Number: 762 Registered: Oct-05 | wow....no offense guys,but.....a little common sense would have answered your question... the adapter is serving the same purpose as shaving the tip...it has no circuitry or anything to make it different...and the wires u cut off will touch right after the connection so there will be absolutelty no dif...and since the connector is 4g u wont have to worry about power loss.... |
Gold Member Username: TjmutlowPost Number: 1637 Registered: Sep-05 | use a distro block 0/4guage, then 4 guage to the amps..... |
Bronze Member Username: FiberPost Number: 26 Registered: Mar-06 | The way i have always seen it is the wire works like a water hose if you have a big hose with a certain amount of water it will come out slower than if you had a smaller one that would spew it out, but it depends on how much power you are sending to the amp/capacitor because if your sending an extreme amount 5,000-10,000 watts then you need something big that would'nt limit the current but when it comes to just everyday systems you do'nt really need a wire that big. |
