Make sure it's on and set to around 60hz. 6.5's just aren't going to do much below that. If you've already done that, or it doesn't improve anything I would guess your speakers are starving for power, and the JL will give you the same, if not a little less power than your Kenwood. I would be shopping for something that's 120-150w x 2 at 2 ohms to get each speaker 60-75w. http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14320 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14470 (gains low) http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16555 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13703 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16661 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14516 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13729 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13474 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=16577 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13286 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=13889 http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=15324 Any of those should make a noticable improvement. |

The links you provided are 2 channel amps, meaning he'll have to purchase 2 of them. IMO, JL 300/4 is a much better amp than Kenwood. Kyle, just what kind of sound are you getting at higher volume? Is it clipping? Distorting? Most likely, it's caused by a poor HU. Are you using RCA cables for inputs? Check your gain/level setting on the amp. If set incorrectly, it'll sound horrible at higher volume setting. |
Kyle D Unregistered guest | I have an Alpine CDA-9853.........The sound is annoying like I cant listen to it for more than a few seconds....its not as clean.......Should get better RCA's or sumthing? |
Gold Member Username: CarguyPost Number: 5356 Registered: Nov-04 | If that's the case, I'd seriously look at your gain/level setting on the amp. If it's set too high or too low, you'll get distorted sound. At low to mid volume, does it sound reasonable? If everything is set correctly, and you still get high distortion from the HU, you could have a bad headunit. |
Kyle D Unregistered guest | At low to mid---it sounds great...........ok i'm going to go mess with the gain/level settings.....Thanks |

The original link I used to look up that kenwood listed it as a 2 ch amp - I made the incorrect assumtion he was running his 4 spkrs at 2 ohms stereo. All the amps I listed would still be an improvement over the current amp, and would allow optimal power from the amp, but if the ability to fade is a priority - then yeah, I guess i wasted my time. |
