Does the length of the remote wire matter? I want to get a on/off switch for my amp, and I would need a long rem wire for that.

no, the REM wire doesn't even carry .5 amps or current so length doesn't really matter. only thing that matters with a REM lead is that you don't hook up more then about 3 amps to it, any more and you need to isolate it with a relay.
