Sup foo's, I just got a quote for a rebuilt alternator that is 165 Amps and "ohhh it probly does about 140 or so at idle". For $150 from a local "Rebuilder" shop.

It would be in a stock core, with rebuilt internals. My car is a '94 Chevy Lumina Euro 3.1L. It is a "small case" alternator housing.

Do these claims sound accurate at all to you? Do you think they are trying to rip me off? Any experience you can share would be appreciated.

does that shop have an alt testing machine?

if they do tell them this..."ok, i'll pay $150...but when you build the alt, your machine better show 130-140A when you test it."
