im going to get 2 12" 1000 watt subwoofers along with an enclosure and and amplifier to max them out but i don't know what gauge wiring i need. does it really matter? please help

Make sure you're looking at RMS numbers for the amp (and subs).
8 ga is good for 400-500w rms.
4 ga is good to about 1200w rms.
