they are different drivers alltogether. the tempest and the maelstrom are adire's spl units (w/sq). brahma and tumult are ho sq drivers. the tempest and maelstrom are similar to the sx and mt, respectively. the tumult is closer to the elder xxx in that it handles tremendous power, but is still geared toward incredible sq. the brahma hammers and sounds better than most anything out below 60 hz, particularly at high volumes. it just doesn't handle a lot of power very well (6-900 watts max).
