I am trying to make sure I purchase the correct sub.

I am looking at a 15inch sub. I am only going to have one sub running on a mono amp.

The sub comes either 2ohm or 4ohm. Which do I want, and why?

Thanks!

well, is it a dual voice coil sub or a single voice coil sub.

also, what kind of amp are you gonna hook it to?? the amp will be your decision maker.

if the amp is 1 ohm stable then use the dual 2, if it 2ohm stable then use dual 4.

It is an Alpine type R dual coil. I don't know what amp to go with.

you need a 1ohm stable amp, Like the kicker 1200.1, orion1200d, memphis 1000d or something along those lines, go to www.ikesound.com and check them out even for a directed amp.

I'd avoid a 2 channel, and get a monoblock for a sub, as most stereo amps are class AB, and a lot of the mono amps out there (especially 1 ohm stable ones) are class D, and 80% efficient..so it wont put as much stress on your cars electrical system.

So I should look for a 1ohm stable amp, and go with the 2ohm sub. Any other suggestions for a good amp for this sub?
