Silver Member Username: Safa19Post Number: 258 Registered: Apr-05 | I read some where that some power wires have a higher thread count that lets it carry more power is that true or not? (it was about rockford fosgate) |
Silver Member Username: BlainewPost Number: 624 Registered: Nov-05 | you can split the wire... |
Silver Member Username: BlainewPost Number: 625 Registered: Nov-05 | well ..dont ACTUALY split it...run the REM from the HU to the amps...then run sepaarte REMS from each amp..then splice the two to the one coming from the HU |
Silver Member Username: Safa19Post Number: 259 Registered: Apr-05 | so make it like a Y so that it breaks off to each amp? also what is a good brand for RCA cables? |

Silver Member Username: TdbdadrummerPost Number: 917 Registered: Aug-05 | Any wiring kit works, just make sure, you get good RCA's like Chauncey said, HOWEVER, I don't see that even they're that important. As really, wire still is wire. |

Even the $40 cheapo's can produce a few hundred amps at ~12v for several seconds at a time. An alternator's current output is limited by the number of windings in the case - while your battery produces current from a chemical reaction. As long as an alternator can provide enough voltage to keep the battery charged it can produce hundreds of amps of current for a few seconds at a time often over a span of 5 years or more. |
Silver Member Username: Safa19Post Number: 262 Registered: Apr-05 | wow didnt know that about batteries thanks... but back to the wiring kit, does the size of the fuse matter? because i found a 2 guage kit that has a 60amp fuse and a 4 guage kit that has a 150amp fuse. Shouldnt those be reveresed since 2 gauge wire carries more power or would the 60amp be enought for an orion 1200D?? |

Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 277 Registered: Mar-04 | A 2 ga kit using a 60A fuse would make me wonder if it's really 2 ga wire. Some of the cheap wiring kits aren't exactly honest on the thickness of the wire. But yes, a 2 ga wire can carry about 40% more current than 4. helpful page -- http://www.bcae1.com/wire.htm |

Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 279 Registered: Mar-04 | I put an email into PA regarding that kit. I'll let you know if they reply. Assuming it IS truly 2 ga I would suggest purchasing the Sound Quest ANL fuse holder for another $6.25 and an ANL fuse (150 or 200A) for $3.15 along with the kit and you'd have a good sized wiring set up for less than $40 + shipping. |

Silver Member Username: N2audioLawrence, Ks USA Post Number: 303 Registered: Mar-04 | Got a very surprising reply from PA... My email to them: "I'm looking at the Kit-2G. I know some of the cheapo ebay wiring kits use smaller wire than advertised, and judging by the 80A fuse that comes with the kit-2g I'm wondering if that isn't the case on the Power Acoustik kits. Can you give me the acutal current capacity of that kit, or what it's specified rms power limit is? I would like to replace the 80A agu fuse with an ANL possibly as large as 200A and just want to be sure the wire in that kit is truely 2 gauge." Their reply: "Hello Justin, IF your looking for good 2 gage wire then you will need to pay the money. Reynaldo Chavez Power Acoustik Power Acoustik Att: Parts Dept. Technical Services 1550 S. Maple Ave. Tel-(800)-832-4647 Montebello, CA 90640 Fax- (323) 722-1122" Wow - talk about brutal honesty. Not something you hear a lot of these days. |
