"im trying to beat around getting a HO alternator."
^^there is no way around it, Car Audio is exspensive, so the only way to get around it is to do it. Also ur lights must dim like crazy when the bass hits, if not ur amp sux, also a cap will not help either

what if i hook the amp up to the battery seperatly, instead of haven it in relation to the alt.?
If you Run the Battery by itself without the alternator charging it then its just gonna Die in a handful of minutes Bean LOL... there is no way around getting an Ho alt, Sorry guy but you need the alt
You can't just slap on a 2nd battery to your system and expect it to work. You need isolator so that the starter battery won't get drained. If you added up the cost of isolator, yellowtop battery, and all the cables needed, it'll end up costing as much as a HO alternator. So don't get fooled.
