is it bad to have the carpet going far into the interior of the box or would it not make a differentce?

do you mean around the port area? IMO, I wouldn't go too far in with the carpet just to be safe. I don't know if this effects sound in anyway, but most boxes I have seen don't go in very far

yea, the carpet goes pertty far in... should i restaple it and cut it to the new staples?
