Hiya guys
thinking of buying sumthing like this

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SFX-CAR-HI-FI-POWER-CAPACITOR-1-5-FARAD-NEW_W0QQitemZ58454 27777QQcategoryZ14931QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

this is for my current rockford rf7 amp that keeps cutting off because its not getting anough power any good?

if this was fully charged how long would it take to fully unload as i want to be able to run my amp and sub @ the full 1500rms or at least get it lowd for a good songs worth before the power runs out then cuts out again and then have to recharge cap again.

Thanks Paul.

Less than a second :-)

Caps don't make power - they store charge. If your alternator can't maintain your system voltage enough to even keep the amp running a cap isn't going to do anything for you - it will just be another component your alternator is trying to recharge.

What car is this in? Do you know what size the alternator is? Are there any other amps installed?

it has a lot to do with how you listen. If you slam bass non-stop that of course is going to draw a lot more current than playing some classic rock at moderate volume.

One of the mods at SD for example runs close to 2kw with a 95 amp alt. It's installed well, and he doesn't blast it all the time, and it works great.

The point is you should be able to make it work if you want it to.

I would stop by a parts store and have them check your alt/batt w/the stereo off. See if it's performing ok under normal circumstances. If it is I would say you've got a problem somewhere in the wiring of your system, and/or the stock grounds.

i listen to everything but like deep bass lines like dnb and hip hop, so if my alternator is only 80 amps and a cap wont help my stereo for more then 1 seconds worth of bass line, what about a yellow top battery like this

or do i give up and bass my next car around having a 100apm alternator which seems abit ott to me.

do all u guys running 1000+rms amps run uprated alternators? if so where do u get them my car is

peugeot 309gti but engine is mi16 which only came out in australia and spain i think.

high output alternater = HO alt
meaning its wound with more copper
to make it push more amperage.

electrical upgrades could mean alot of things
but usually it means a big 3 wire gauge thickening.

google big 3 and theres probably a tutorial out
there somewhere.

oh, and hay Glass :-)

i got my amp working last night for the first time ever i didnt feel the need to turn it up any lowder and it never cut out;-)

had bass testers running and it was great, this monring went to crank it up and cut again, have found out it runs 13.8 volts at where i listen to it lowd, is this enuff power for a running car to power my amp and sub without draining battery?

also my amp can play bass testers etc its only things that are constantly hitting hard like hardcore music, is this where a capacitor would do its job in keeping the amp running or not?

my battery is 56 or 65ah storage and 560amps do i buy a 1.5 farad capacitor in the hope it cures this problem?

stores energy and gives out enerfy to amp ata stable rate so im told might buy a cheep one for £35 from ebay does it matter what type of cap u run as long as its right size ie there is a £100 cap and a £35 cap both same ratings and gaurenteed for 12months what one would u opt for?

If you have the money to waste, then £100, if not £35.
Read up on the links Glasswolf posted above. Caps are great for filtering, not as power source.
Don't let people fool you. You can not run 2000w with 95A alternator. It is mathematically/physically not possible.
The ones that claim they can safely do it, are lying or not driving anywhere close to 2000w.

mine is 1500rms at 2 ohms and only run a 4ohm sub so it will probably be around 6-700rms max im guna order the £35 cap it rated at 18volts and can take 24 volt spikes and is 1.5 farad.

if that dont work i might get a batteri which can store more power running 56ah at mo maybe try and go for sumthing bigger like 70ah;-)

if that dont work im selling my amp and downgrading to old bd500.1 lol.
