Hey guys, new to the site. was searching the web and ran into this site.
Anyway, I have a Mercury Grand Marquis and I'm getting ready to drop about $1200 to $1400 USD into a system. My trunk is huge. (20 cubic feet) and I was thinking about getting two 15" subs. I love bass but I really like my bass blended in with the rest of my speakers. I like the high quality home system sound in a car. Don't know if that's even possible.
anyway. In a trunk this size would it be better if I stuck with 2 12" subs or am I right in thinking 2 15" subs would sound the best?
I haven't picked out the amps yet but I do know I'm going with infinity Kappa or perfect speakers through out the car. The sub brand is one of the last decisions I have to make.
im looking at a pair of eclipse aluminums 12" and a kicker amp and its gona end up somewere around 700$ i've ben told that the aluminums are good subs for my 500$ budget for subs alone so im going with them my only thing was a mono or stereo amp and since there is no audible difference in them im going with the mono amp
yeah I can up the budget if need be but I'm not trying to build something to compete with.
I want to get the best for my money and Im SET on the Kappa perfect speakers, the head unit I could spend more on but this Kenwood seems to have everything I need and I'm getting a good deal on it as it is.
As for subs, well I can toss in enough cash to buy those Alpine subs but DAMN they have an RMS rating of 1000 watts. I wasn't planning on running that large/powerful of a system. I had thought I'd pick up some subs that ran 300 watts rms and grab an amp to match. To buy an amp that could push 1000 watts rms per channel would be sooo expensive.
in the end yes I can spend more money, (I just have to justify it to myself) ummm.I could most likely throw in a total of 2k for the ENTIRE system but no more than that because I'd rather be putting that money into a new DLP for my office.
ok guys again thanks for all your help. I have decided on the entire system. I have to ask this once more though.
I keep looking at the subs and I keep thinking that 12's would be too small. My car is large. Infact its the same car used by the Police (ford/mercury) so that gives you an idea of size. the trunk is HUGE with 20 cubic feet.
will 12's still slam hard in a car that big or would 15's be a better decision? in this entire thread no one actually said 12's would be better and WHY they would be the better choice over running 15's.
I will buy a set of either:
Alpine SWR-1242D -- Type R 12" DVC 4 Ohms
or
Alpine SWR-1542D 15"
if you guys really think 12's are the way to go then I'll go that way. I only want to make the right decision for my car.
the reason why we did not suggest 12s in the beginning is because of your low budget but as u said later on u r willing 2 spend more $ then u could get those 15" Rs & power it with a PPi 1500
U can also get more powerful subs than those Rs too $ permitting .
but be warned - u will have 2 then upgrade ur electrical system/alt 2 supply sufficient current to that amp + your amp 4 ur speakers too ......
I have to admit its been a long time since I looked into car audio. I have been riding motorcycle forover 10 years straight and I just decided to buy a car so I could put my bike in the garage and start building her up.
I hate to spend a ton of money but at the same time I want the best I can afford.
