if i have a rockford t20001bd amp running two subs that can handle 1000 rms each i obviously will blow them if i turn up the volume high. the amp will pump 2800 rms at most..but as long as i keep the bass boost down on the remote..and im careful with it, will the subs be fine. i know ive asked this before..but will my subs still be getting 2800 watts of power..or do the watts go down when the volume goes down?
The more power you apply to the speaker, the louder it'll go. So as you turn your volume knob up, it's sending more power to your door speakers, and more voltage across your RCAs to the amp. As long as you aren't clipping the subs, they SHOULD be ok, even with a little more wattage then RMS. This would also depend on enclosure type.
