The story on these is that they were built as a 1 year limited run bye Soundstream (the OLD Soundstream not Power Acoustik), and were built to be the best amplifiers Soundstream had ever manufactured. The company went belly up so now they can be had for a song. This is one of those things that once they're gone it's over. I own a pair of the 600's so for anyone looking into buying GREAT reliable SQ amplifiers, check out the Soundstream Van Gogh lineup on eBay, here's a URL for anyone interested: http://cgi.ebay.com/SOUNDSTREAM-VGA-600-2-VAN-GOGH-600W-2-CH-AMPLIFIER-AMP |

Post Number: 1485 Registered: May-05 | it's not necessary to strap two different model amps to your sub. i would be patient and find a good 900-1200 watt amp, depending on your enclosure. each of those amps has a 30.00 shipping fee. save up like 40.00 and get an elemental designs nine.1 for 350.00 with free shipping and 3yr warranty |

Post Number: 1486 Registered: May-05 | "Do you all think a 600 will push 2 alpine type r's (old ones 300w a peice) pretty good?" if they are dvc 4 ohm subs, certainly. i would even consider the 800.2 for increased headroom if you can find one. |
Silver Member Username: JoebruceKY U.S.A. Post Number: 268 Registered: May-04 | Yea they are dvc 4 ohm and all i found was the 600.2 and 400.2 on ebay. |
Gold Member Username: Mikechec9Http://www.cardomain.c... Post Number: 1493 Registered: May-05 | the 600.2 will do fine. it will likely be closer to 330watts/channel. clean and transparent a/b. best amp for the money you will ever get. take care of it though. they don't make them any more. |
Silver Member Username: Nutty91rsBloomington, Indiana USA Post Number: 148 Registered: Oct-05 | The 600.2 and the 400.2's are about the only ones you can still find reasonable, just do a search on good ole eBay. I find that people think they need that extra 400 watts but they usually don't, 600 will give you nearly the same ammount of output and it will certainly take most subs beyond comfortable listening levels. The no returns policy does suck, I'm not sure if Soundstream can still repair these amps at all. I doubt it, but it's possible. I know the smaller chains will be happy to do repairs on them if they ever go out and they're built solid so they should last a good long while. |
