I have a Sony xm-3040f 4 channel car amp that goes into protection mode anytime it is powered up. Does anyone know a reason for this? There are no speakers connected to it or music going to it, but when there is it still stays in protection mode. So basically, it does nothing.

typical sony amp failure.
this is why nobody recommends sony.

this happens more times than not with a sony amp.
usually within the first year.

well thats nice to know....but only I really want is to fix it. There has to be someone here who knows enough about these things to know what to do with it. I dont work with car stuff much....mainly just prosound stuff and large sound systems. Now power amps have a protection mode, but they dont function like car amps.

the protection light means you have a short internally.
the amp is toast.
take it in and get it repaired, or better yet throw it out and get a quality product to replace it.

you're not going to be able to repair it yourself.
if the short isn't in the wiring to the amp which apparently it isn't, the amp is defective.

depends on what caused the damage.
with the sony it's poorly made so yes, it could be anywhere.
