About a month ago i had to pull my system out (two subs in a bandpass, and a sony 444watt amp) because of it damaging my cars alternator (1989 honda civic.) Now just recently i was looking over at crutchfield.com to try and find a system that maybe wouldn't draw too much power (but mine pulled at max less than 200 watts). Well anyway while i was there they told me that if i would've had a capacitor my alternator wouldn't have been damaged, and then i went back another time and they said that my alternator probably was just getting too old anyway, so i shouldn't of had a problem. could anyone help me out here?

capacitors are a gimmick and will NOT replaec the need for a larger alternator.
just go to ebay.com and get a honda alternator that's around 120-150A. They sell for under $300.
That'll solve the problem.
you need an alternator capable of supplying the current demanded by the additional draw of your audio system, plain and simple.
