multiply whatever the amp does at its maximum RMS output by 1.4 to get what the amp will pull in "amps" to produce it's power.

i'm sorry you divide, not multiply

1200wRMS/1.4 equals 140A (that's what my amp pulls)

*edit*

i am having a hard time huh? LOL

you take the wattage, divide by 12, THEN!!!!! multiply by 1.4.

maybe i should read GW's article again huh? lol

for class D amps you take the wattage, divide by 12, then multiply by 1.2:-)

a class d amp is 80% efficient so to get current draw say you have a 1000 watt class d amp you take 1000 * .8 / 10 = 80 amps another quick way to get a average is do watts divided by 12 in this case it would be 1000 / 12= 83.3 amps

with a class D amp, divide the wattage by 12. that's the amperage draw at 100% efficiency. Then multiply that resulting amperage by 1.2 to add 20% inefficiency.

class AB, you multiply by about 1.5 for 50%
