Kicker amp clipping

i have a Kicker KX600.1 hook up to 2 Kicker Comps (2005 models) and when we try and turn the gain up the amp clips shouldnt it blow the subs first?

uhh no, the clipping will damage the subs, but the amp is probably going to go into thermal protection mode once you reach a certain percentage of clipped signal anyway just to protect the amplifier's power supply.
