what size mdf board should i get, my subs are 2 AA Atlas 15's, i was thinking 3/4 mdf but might get 1inch since its only like 3 dollars more. should that be big enough.
it is highly recommendable to get a 3/4" MDF Board. having a 1 inch board will cause to be too heavy and maybe not as efficient. I highly suggest 3/4" though.
1" MDF is better, but it's quit a bit heavier. I usually don't use it, because MDF is just a b1tch to get here, period. I have to twist arms to get just 3/4", so 1" is rare.
But my new boxes will be 1", but I have to drive 72 miles one way to get it... (better not screw up)
1 inch is the way to go . U need all the stiffness in a box . 3/4 is what is 'recommmended' because its a common size available & is lighter obviously . Why do u think pro box builders double up the 3/4 for the baffle board & back wall .
Any box i'm building (for a high rms speaker size 12" & up) will be made of 1" . Sure its a lil more weight but think of it like dropping the back of your ride without lowering ....lol
Boxes are generally supposed to be braced too but ppl are too darn lazy to do it & it also makes calculation more difficult .
