Jl audio 12w3v2 enclosure

hi, i have a pair of jl audio 12w3v2's. they are currently in a sealed box. i'm thinking of putting them into a ported box, although i'd like to keep the size of the box down as much as possible. the reason i want a ported enclosure is that i'd like the subs to go louder, though i'm worried that sound quality may suffer from a ported enclosure, compared to a sealed enclosure. are there any recommended enclosures for w3's? has anyone else tried this with their subs? what are your views on sealed vs ported?

1.7 to 2cu ft per sub, 4"ID ports
tune the ports to about 35Hz.
you should be happy with the results.

should i fill the box with anything to deaden the sound, or just have bare wood inside? also, what about the sound quality? i've heard that ported boxes sound boomy, and aren't as accurate as sealed boxes?

you shouldn't need any polyfill for that box so empty is fine.
when you figure the box volume, add the displacement of both the subs and the ports to the calculation so the box is the volume you want *after* adding the subs and ports.
SQ should be fine if the box is tuned that low.
the boomy part comes when the box is tuned too high, like around 45Hz+
Try it out.. if you don't like the results, sell the box and build a different one.. maybe sealed.
