Would it be bad to overpower a 250w eclipse sub by about 100 watts? It probably is even tho eclipse has good products... what if i kept the gain pretty low? like, a little lower than normal?

Shouldn't be no problem. I have a infinity sub (300RMS) and I am feeding it 400 RMS and my buddy had the same thing for over a year and no troubles yet. Just watch the gains and try matching it with the volts from the HU. Tuning it properly will mean the world when it comes to overpowering a sub. It's better to have more power than to have less power!
