ok, i have my SE in a .6 cu ft box and i wanted to test it on my friends amp its an mtx 6001 and the gain was about half up and the bass boost was 1/4 up(didnt look at other adjustments) it was bridged to two ohms and im pretty sure it either 400-600 watts rms,the deck's bass was at+6 and fader all the way to the rear, but when we turned it up to the volume he listens to around 30 on a panasonic deck my SE was bottoming out like crazy i didnt know why. please someone explaine this to me and if i need to i will give more info. please help!!!???...
waht size is this SE? .6 is a very small box.. I'm thinking maybe too small, and it's getting too peaky and bottoming out. did you consider trying a ported enclosure, or a larger sealed box? you shouldn't need the bass boost or bass settings set anywhere but flat.
ah its a ten.. sealed I take it. did you build that box to be .6 after figuring the driver's displacement? or is it just a straight .6 based on interior dimensions?
that's your problem. the box is too small. you need to rebuild the box so there's .6cu ft of actual AIR space, after figuring the amount of air the sub displaces (provided in the TS specs) and figuring for thickness of box materials, etc. otherwise you end up with a box with about .2cu ft of air.
no its not against the back wall but it is in close quarters!! the box measures approx. 13.5" w - 14.5" t - 8" deep- there is an amp rack around the box and i forgot my original measurements so thats all i could get.
hey i thought i read in another thread that there was something you could spray inside the sub box to make the sub think the box is bigger or something?.? maybe im mistaken.
Last time I checked people didn't spray poly fill, haha. But that's probably what your thinking of. It's basically pillow-stuffing. Buy it at walmart and stuff some in your box. It helps with resonance.
polyfill or dacron.. 1 pound per cubic foot of air space, but it only adds the impression of an extra 10% volume. not nearly enough to save building a larger box
