I've been noticing batteries (for sale in the summit racing catalog) that actually have a higher output than 12.5 volts.. It says something like a standard alternator will work, then the battery actually has an internal charger or something to charge it to like 16 volts? How do these work? And are they for real? Would it actually help with car audio, etc?
there are 16 volt batteries, but most electrical systems in cars are not made to operate at that voltage so you'd run a real good chance of frying electonics in the car unless you isolate the battery just for audio. Then the battery doesn't help unless you run amplifiers with unregulated power supplies.
Hmmm...even if my amps were regulated, wouldnt the higher voltage help against at least dropping below the 14.4 volt mark in times of high loads? Or would it actually hurt, since the battery uses something that charges itself that high, thus making it drop even faster?
