My head unit will play the radio and cds for an unpredictable amount of time, then it makes an odd noise and shuts off. It doesnt actually shut off, just the speakers do. However, the subs still play.
This problem generally happens more quickly if i turn up the volume. After shutting off, it takes about 20 minutes to go back on. It isn't overheating, the RCA wires are in nice and tight. I dont think its a speaker problem because they all shut off at once. Maybe a loose wire somewhere? Did i short something?
I'm seeing two possible problems. One, you actually do have a bad speaker connection, most likely in the wiring harness connection; try testing one speaker at a time even after the headunit has had the problem. Or two, there is a bad solder connection within the headunit-this would most likely require having a technician look at it to be repaired.
