This is caused a number of ways. Too little current from the alternator or batteries, gain set too high and overdriving the amplifier, etc. the result is DC voltage being sent to the speakers, which prevents the motor structures from properly cooling the voice coils. Then, then coils heat up too much, and melt, damaging the speakers. all explained in the above link. |
