I 'm just wondering what is the best way to hook up an amp, to the battery or to the fuse box, my friend said it was best from the fuse box because it wouldn't kill my alternator, but it seems like the speakers hit as hard. I have a memphis 400 amp, and 2 fosgate 10 kickers, and a stinger cap...any wiring help would be sweet.
a: your friend is an idiot. b: wire the amp's positive line directly to the battery with an inline fuse, using the proper gauge wire for the amp's current draw rating. that'll probably be 4 gauge. ground the amp within 24" of the amp. the amplifier is going to draw the current it needs, or try to, no matter what, so you may as well feed it properly.. otherwise all you'll do is destroy the amp or start a fire in the car. If the alternator can't handle the draw, its time for a bigger alternator. its as simple as that.
