ive talked about this with glass already but just want to know something.. i have to alpine 12" type X's ... they seem to be designed for sealed boxes as they have a high Qts (0.64).. if i made a ported box for them would i accually lose spl?.. also what is it that makes a driver suitable for ported or sealed enclosures? does it have to do with the stiffness of the suspension for the driver?
sorry I was being nagged at when I was trying to post and got distracted.
here:
Efficiency Bandwidth Product (EBP) EBP = Fs / Qes 50 or less = best used in a sealed enclosure. 50 - 90 = flexible enclosure options. 90 or greater = best used in ported enclosure. -OR- Qts < 0.30 - ported Qts = 0.30 - 0.50, use ported or sealed. Qts > 0.50 sealed
dude.. lol.. SO Since it is obviously designed for sealed.. i go back to my question .. would building a ported spl box gain little to nothing spl wise?
yeah sizing is pretty generic. you can always change port length and stick a different sub in the ported box if ya scrap it for the sealed.. or vice versa
