RE12's

Ok, doesn't look like I am going to upgrade my amp at all so currently I have 175wrms to 2 12" Xplod's. I want a little louder/deeper bass but alot more quality. I turn to RE for help. The CVR's (400wrms seem to be overkill for the watts and I will probably just run into clipping the amp trying to get them to perform to their standards instead of my amplifier. I was wondering, will 2 RE12's be louder/deeper/and sound much better than 2 Sony's? Does anyone have any personal experience with the subwoofers to know how good they sound? Would it be possible to get the RE's in either a SVC or a dual 2 ohm DVC since my amp is only stable at 2 ohms? (Alpine-MRP 350) Thanks for your help.

RE's will eat those alive.. you can't go wrong any way for RE and money value..

;) i think the res are all dvc 4 ohm but you can just wire them down to 2 ohm.. right?

there are 2 subs with 4 ohm DVC's so its either 1 ohm or 4 ohms that way (i think)

and just for consideration, are there any other 12's in the price range that would handle around 175 or 200 watts apeice (2 of them) and still be almost as good?

or even if I couldn't get the RE12's in SVC or DVC 2 ohms then would it be THAT bad and would I lose alot of bass going from 2 ohms on the amp (350X1 rms, 175 per sub) to 4 ohms (200X1rms, 100 per sub)?

I am just kidding man!!! They really are friggin amazing. They get so much louder then my 15" TDX's that i was massively underpowering with my amp. They are so punchy and have amazing SQ capabilities. It is just so hard to some it up in words how excited i am to have found these subs!!!

I still have yet to REALLY blast these subs as i first got them up and running at Midnight. I am alsmost afraid to do it for fear of shaking my car to pieces. I will do it after a little while though, i just wanna break them in first. These really do pack a punch and i listened to them with metal and rap and were extremely accurate off of my zapo reference 500.1.

They only weigh like 6 pounds apeice, so dont be expecting these big giant speakers to arrive at your door.

If you would like anymore specific info let me know.

Thanks Chris, I am looking for stuff to capture the bass drum and bass guitars feel/sound perfectly like I am at a live Metallica concert but be able to switch over to T.I and get some gangsta rap shaking my car to peices... Can they do it? And even if I can't get dual 2 ohm or SVC 4 ohm and have to run only 100 wrms to each sub should I do it or what?

Like i said chris, i found them to be really punchy. They were not obnoxious whatsoever even at high volumes. They seemed to blend in perfectly with my Comps up front. I would imagine that 2 would be just fine as well. When playing rap i could really feel every hit right in my chest. With heavy metal it sounded great too. If i would have listened to some metal off of a CD instead of Sirius it think that it would have blown me away.

RE builds there subs after the order so you could prob get different voice coil configurations, but i dont know what they would charge you.

As far as putting 100 watts in to them i really couldnt tell you. I am putting atleast 150 to each of mine off of a FANTASTIC amp.

Would they probably hit harder than my 2 12" Sony Xplod's?

they better friggin hit harder then those sonys, and sound better doing it. I did however hook up all 4 of them at once, so i havent heard just 2.

I have heard that that alpine amps are underated, so i really wouldnt recommend using it with 2 subs and puttin that little wattage into it.

It sucks knowing that your subs could sound way better. Trust me on this topic as i know if i would have been able to properly power my 15" TDX's i would have gone deaf a long time ago. lol.

Actually i have heard a Sony Xplod when we use to carry them at Sears before we got rid of car audio. I thought they sound like azz and didnt hit hard at all. The best sub we had in our store was a cheap pioneer sub.

If sears carries it or used to carry it that it is a POS man.

You mean my amp is overrated? Well if I can get the ohms down to 2 then I can run the appropriate 175wrms to each of the 2 subs.

yeah, if would be fine if you got the subs in the dual 2 ohm config. As far as your amp goes, i have just heard that alpine overates slightly, but i couldnt tell you for sure as i have no personal experience with them.

they might be overrated but i do know personally they put hardly any stress on my stock alternator, they never get even warm, and they put out good quality, clean bass. Anyway, thanks for your help, its time to get some rest. I am going to try calling RE in the morning to see what config's they can do. Keep me updated on your system. oh, and if you have 'em, send me some pics of the install! chrisperson@insightbb.com

thanks sub, oh, and you have heard those round sony's haven't you? The 300wrms 900max. They can get pretty loud but sound like crap. Will the RE's be able to get at least as loud/deep?

Actually Chris, i have only heard the hexagon shape or whatever the hell they are sony's. I am sure that pretty much everybody would agree that almost anything would be louder and deeper and sound better then those sonys.
