If i leave the Orion 2500d (2500w RMS @ 1ohm) the same what difference will there be between these setups:

Four 10" DVC MTX 81044a @ 1ohm
or
Six 10" DVC MTX 81044a @ 1ohm

Essentially i would have more surface with less power running six.

Does having more surface outwiegh having more power?

Please correct me if i am wrong:
four 10s @ 1ohm on 2500w = 625w per sub for 40" of total sub surface.
Six 10s @ 1ohm on 2500w = 417w per sub for 60" of total sub surface.

Which is better?

What's the RMS of the subs?

yes that's what it boils down to. If you run 6 of the 10's...then u should have at least 3/4 of the rms...if that isn't attainable, go with 4 10's

the Subs are 400w RMS (http://www.mtx.com/caraudio/products/manualsQuickInstall/subs/T81044A.pdf)

My question is: are six subs are less power better than four subs at more power.

The installed four are currently wire to 1ohm

Goal is 60% SQ and 40% SPL

The Orion amp is 2500w RMS @1ohm (at least thats what the manual says though i am not convinced)

so is it better to have four DVC 400w RMS 10s @ 1ohm on 2500w = 625w per sub for 40" of total sub surface
or
Six DVC 400w RMS 10s @ 1ohm on 2500w = 417w per sub for 60" of total sub surface

if it's 2500w rms...go with 6...your SQ will be jeopardized if you give it 150% of its rated RMS.

yeah thats what i would think but currently i have four of the subs wired to 1ohm on the Orion 2500d.

That should give me 2500w or 625w each but when i turn my alpine 9833 to 30 it gets loud but the MTX81044a subs do not give any sign of problems...

In fact at the level i have already fried an infinity 1001 tweeter (part of the 6000cs component set) which is hooked up to a Rockford Fosgate 301s delivering 75w RMS to speaker that can handle 90w RMS

hence the note doubt earlier whether the Orion truly hits 2500w at 1ohm...

might want to turn the gain down on the rockford amp then...clipping is a serious destroyer of tweeters.

i adjusted the gain for each of the four sets (two pair of 6000cs; one set in each door) seperately then as a pair with all other speakers off...

i did not hear any distortion; even loud it was crystal clear. I did however spell something that i could not place my finger on...even after tracing every wire...

Since it was the drivers side door tweeter that fried the smell was very noticable...it took about a week before it finally stop producing sound...

once removed the tweeter was bubbled and the rippled on the circumfrence (?sp) of entire bottom...
