i have a 5.1 surround sound speaker system for my computer and i was pissing around today and wired my old 10" rockwood detanator to my little computer sub and it worked, good even. is this safe or will somthin get broken?

when ppl talk about how to hook subs to their home audio, are they talking about doing it without having a sub made for home audio to hook it up to?
