How do you get 14.4 volts

I see that some amps can get more RMS with 14.4 volts, how do you run an amp at 14.4v?

You have to have an alternator with the voltage regulator set to 14.4V

So if you have a 12v alternator can you get a regulator for it?

no i think even stock alternators put out 14.4 volts at one time or another..the problem is that most stock alternators cant handle high power systems which use up alot of power so the voltage tends to decrease into the 12s because the alternator cannot produce enough power to run everything in the car..thats why you have to get one with a higher amp capacity that way it gives you more power

In most newer cars the regulator is contained within the alternator, so basically you're buying the entire unit. Either that or altering the current one. Stocks can put out 14.4+, but like Quick Shot said, under load the voltage willdrop. Most stock alternators put out at least high 13s.

So if you buy a HO alternator that runs at 14.4V, will it always run at 14.4V?

14.4 volts above idle. that's the charging voltage.. it has to be higher than the car's battery in order to charge the battery.

amplifiers with unregulated power supplies have power outputs dependant on the input voltage

Capacitor settles it.

I don't think a cap would help at all in this scenario.

Capacitor voltage will be the same as the alternator voltage. If the voltage drops, the capacitor is going with it.

Once the cap is drained that is, which will be very quickly if you don't have an adequate alternator.

@ DUB
check out http://www.audiotec-fischer.com/produkte/zub.html
and choose the XXL, its in German but just what you want.
You can get 12-15V at 100A cont or 200A peak.
Don't know the price yet.

So yea, if I get a HO alternator one that runs at 14.4, it will always run at 14.4 right?
