Rms and max

can u power a sub that has say 600watts rms and 1200 max 900 watts or ne thing between the rms and max? ive been wonderin this for a while now and i figured id post it :D thx in advance

what? you have to match rms and rms at the same ohms. if the sub said 600 rms at 2 ohms and the amp said 1200 max and 600rms at 2 ohms then you would ok.

no.... lol say the sub was dual 2 ohm and was 600 rms and 1200 max. if i had a mono amp and it was 800 rms @ 1 ohm. and 1600 watts max @ 1 ohm. would i be ok powering it at 800 rms or would that blow my sub. would i be better off using just a 600 watt rms amp?

Just use the mono amp. No need to go out and buy another amp. Thermally your sub can't take it. Just keep the gain down a little bit. The RMS difference is only 200 watts. This way, your amp will run much cooler and you'll have that extra juice to call on for short periods of time.
