Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1020 Registered: Aug-04 | Hey guys, I sold my amp and I'm getting ready to start ordering my new stuff. Just wanted some last opinions on an amp to run an Eclipse Aluminum SW7124DVC-T4. It's 450 rms, dual 4 ohms, so it'll run at 2 ohms of course. I kinda have my mind set on the MTX 421D, its 420 rms, but that's at 14.4 volts, (d@mn mtx). I've had mtx amps before, so I know they are good quality, but I'm kinda thinking I could run more to the eclipse. I'm wondering if 420 rms would be enough for it, especially since that's at 14 volts. I was looking for something in the same price range that will put out 450-500 good clean watts rms. |
Silver Member Username: SubfanaticWalton, Ky Post Number: 507 Registered: Dec-04 | joe joe joe....lol...you know i have an amp that pushes like that if you want to buy it lol....haha...well id say that amp would be good...but eclipses seem to be underrated for sure....ill sell you my interfire IB2900C amp for 225 shipped if you want it...its 550 watts rms 1100 peak...just a suggestion |
Silver Member Username: Taylor17Kopperl, Texas Post Number: 720 Registered: Jan-05 | It will be enough. are you going ported or sealed? |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1024 Registered: Aug-04 | 2.25 cf ported. I already have the box, and NO Subfanatic, I DON'T WANT YOUR AMP. lol. |
Silver Member Username: SubfanaticWalton, Ky Post Number: 508 Registered: Dec-04 | haha damn lol...i gotta sell stuff lol...my mom is getting pissed..i really need to get a ebay account then i can stop pawning it off on your guys lol |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1026 Registered: Aug-04 | It'd be cool to have an eclipse amp too, but I think their a little pricey. |
Silver Member Username: Taylor17Kopperl, Texas Post Number: 725 Registered: Jan-05 | Lol, just a little expencive. That box should work fine I'm guessing with 420 watt's. |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1029 Registered: Aug-04 | That's what I thought. Wouldn't need as much since it's ported. I'm still not sure though. I hate it when companys rate stuff at 14 volts. |
Silver Member Username: Taylor17Kopperl, Texas Post Number: 728 Registered: Jan-05 | Lol yeh. Do you have a ho alt? |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1031 Registered: Aug-04 | I'm gonna get the amp first, run that to my mtx carefully for a while. I'm gonna order a 160 amp alt the same time I order the Eclipse. I already got the alt stuff ready, just gotta order it. |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1033 Registered: Aug-04 | Also, I should be fine with 8 gauge power and ground to the 421d shouldn't I? 8 gauge is rated at 50 amps I think, and that would be really close to a 400 rms/800 peak amp. |
Silver Member Username: Taylor17Kopperl, Texas Post Number: 732 Registered: Jan-05 | Once you git the new alt, it should git close to 14 volt's. Not sure about the wireing, but I think I would go with 4 gage just to be safe. 8 could be fine too. |
Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1051 Registered: Aug-04 | Can anybody else think of a good 450, 500 watt rms amp? |
Silver Member Username: SubfanaticWalton, Ky Post Number: 573 Registered: Dec-04 | haha...once again...interfire audio IB2900C amp...550 watts rms bridged...but also...since were on the subject....kinda...when i get my new HO is there any new wires i need for it...can i install it? and if not..where and how much...also...im getting a 150 amp alt and my ed nine.1...at about the same time..what size power and ground wire?...also...for now until i get my new ho and amp im using my audiobahn i think...for like a week untill i get that stuff...what size wire to that..i think i have 8 gauge in there right now...???thank you |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bNc Usa Post Number: 149 Registered: Jan-05 | u will need to upgrade to at least 4 guage. 4 guage is rated at 125 amps. 2 guage could probaly handle 200 amps |

Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1060 Registered: Aug-04 | https://www.ecoustics.com/electronics/forum/car-audio/125165.html As for power and ground, I'd probably go 2 awg. |
Silver Member Username: Nnnnick_bNc Usa Post Number: 151 Registered: Jan-05 | from ho to batt and ho to ground def 2 guage. batt to amp 2 guage to be safe. Might as well go to 2 guage seeing as there is no way u can use the 8 guage. |
Silver Member Username: SubfanaticWalton, Ky Post Number: 575 Registered: Dec-04 | oh ok....thanks guys...ill just go get some...but anyone know by chance how much it is...ive never had to buy it that big....anyone know how much it would be for like 30 feet at radioshack |

Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1066 Registered: Aug-04 | Some web site, not sure what it was now, but prices on wire don't really flucuate that much from store to store. |

Gold Member Username: InvainMichigan United States Post Number: 1069 Registered: Aug-04 | Alternators aren't that hard to change. As long as you and your hick neighbor have some knowledge about cars, lol. |
