MTX 421D, or something bigger to push Eclipse Alum?

Hey guys, I sold my amp and I'm getting ready to start ordering my new stuff. Just wanted some last opinions on an amp to run an Eclipse Aluminum SW7124DVC-T4. It's 450 rms, dual 4 ohms, so it'll run at 2 ohms of course. I kinda have my mind set on the MTX 421D, its 420 rms, but that's at 14.4 volts, (d@mn mtx). I've had mtx amps before, so I know they are good quality, but I'm kinda thinking I could run more to the eclipse. I'm wondering if 420 rms would be enough for it, especially since that's at 14 volts. I was looking for something in the same price range that will put out 450-500 good clean watts rms.

That's what I thought. Wouldn't need as much since it's ported. I'm still not sure though. I hate it when companys rate stuff at 14 volts.

I'm gonna get the amp first, run that to my mtx carefully for a while. I'm gonna order a 160 amp alt the same time I order the Eclipse. I already got the alt stuff ready, just gotta order it.

Also, I should be fine with 8 gauge power and ground to the 421d shouldn't I? 8 gauge is rated at 50 amps I think, and that would be really close to a 400 rms/800 peak amp.

Once you git the new alt, it should git close to 14 volt's.
Not sure about the wireing, but I think I would go with 4 gage just to be safe. 8 could be fine too.

u will need to upgrade to at least 4 guage. 4 guage is rated at 125 amps. 2 guage could probaly handle 200 amps

As for power and ground, I'd probably go 2 awg.

from ho to batt and ho to ground def 2 guage. batt to amp 2 guage to be safe. Might as well go to 2 guage seeing as there is no way u can use the 8 guage.

Yeah, not sure on the price, but once you start getting into 4 and 2, it's expensive. Just be glad you don't have to get 00awg.

Alternators aren't that hard to change. As long as you and your hick neighbor have some knowledge about cars, lol.
