I kinda had my mind set on a ED 13kv.2 or maybe the 15" 16kv.2. I was also looking at ID's or IDQ's, and even some of the Digital Design's stuff. I forgot about Eclipse though. I was looking at the Eclipse SW7124DVC-T4, (the Aluminum one.) So how would you guys compare subs from these other companies to the ED kv.2's? All of the subs I'm looking at are in the 300 - 500 RMS range. And if you have any other suggestions, feel free.

All good woofers. Myself, I prefer DD. Not only do they sound good, but I know thier build quality is unsurpassed. I've burped all models of thier woofers with 4 times the rated power and never seen even the slightest problem.
But I suppose this could be said about the other brands there. Although, in spl competitions, where durability is crucial, DD are one of the most widely used woofers out there, so that should mean something. However with that in mind people tend to think of DD's as spl woofers only, when on the contrary they are one of the most accurant woofers available.
At any rate, I think you'll be happy with any of the three brands you've listed.

That does help a lot Zac. I didn't really know dd's were that commenly used as spl subs. I think I'll look into them more. Anybody else? I still don't know about the Eclipse's, they haev a ton of xmax, and I have heard them before.

Eclipse is an awesome sub. Under-rated and great build quality (at least the older Alum). But the ED stuff seems cool and it would be nice to try something new & diff. that not too many people have. Prices seem very reasonable and free shipping!

Can someone who really knows (Jon/Glass, etc) give an idea of what falls in the same category as the ED 13kv.2 or the 13Ov.2?

I've heard too many "iffy" stories about ED to consider them, but many people swear by them. I'm not as familiar with their subs, I've heard a couple for a brief moment, but I'm not going to base my opinions on those.

Way to go Jon....just burst my bubble! :-)

So what's out this year that's cool, can run well on 500wRMS and is less than $200?
Would like to try out a new TypeR. No one can seem to find them....
What about OZ Matrix elite? Or the Pioneer TS-W2000SPL?

That's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. I woulda tried one of the ne Type-R's but I couldn't find them anywhere. So I've decided on The newest Eclipse Aluminum 12", gonna push it with an MTX 421D. I'm selling some stuff tomorrow to be exact, so I should have all the stuff ordered and maybe recieved this week.

Where are you getting the Eclipse? How much did it run you? I may have to just go back to something I know.

I'm prolly getting the Eclipse off Ebay. $165 shipped. I went to the closest Audioshop around and they had the SW6100's for about 140. I'm getting the SW7124, and they didn't even have it so I figured I'd go ebay. I've never had bad luck with it. I wanted to go with a 12" TI, but I would have to wait longer to raise more money, So I decided on the SW7124. I think it's the next best from the TI's. Not sure about the SW7324 though, the SW7100's and the SW7300's seem almost like the same sub. What the heck's the difference?

I dunno. Have no experience w/ the new ones. Only the 8122DVC which is what I've owned in the past. (kicking myself now for passing it on....)

Yeah, my friend has one of those. How do you think that would stack up to the SW7124? Cuz he'd be willing to sell the 8122 to me for $150.

Well as long as it's in good shape and hasn't been abused I'd jump on it. I think it's superior to the current aluminum.

If I were you, I'd get the 8122. In all honesty it performs the same or slightly better than the SW7124 and you'd get it cheap.

Yeah, I think I might. It sounds really nice the way he's running it.

Would the RE SE 12 be a good alternate. Seems to be a hefty sub. Or would I be losing significant SQ going that route?
