ALPINE CDA-7990 IN-DASH CD TUNER AND AI-NET CONTROLLER
yeah I'd say the CDA-7990 (mine) or the ICA-901. depends on what you want the unit for. the 901 handles DVD etc.. so it's more rounded for multimedia. the 7990 is a purist unit for audio only.
It retails for 3 grand. You can find tehm on-line for about $1700-1800. It's a great head unit though but really it's wasted money unless you have the rest of the system to match it's capabilities. Alpine's digital processors with optical connections are a great match. Beyond those I'd probably go ti balanced high voltage signal paths like Zapco's SymbiLink or PPI and Orion's older DIN cable system. Then use good amps and pretty much the best SQ speakers you can find for the system. Not really a head unit made for burping systems at SPL events. You could do that using a Mister Microphone and get just about teh same results.
