Well I have a 2 gauge power wire that comes to a distrobution block which splits out into two 4 gauge wires to power my two JL Audio amps (300/4 and 500/1). I need to rewire the system because I am moving the position of the amps and I'm also adding a 5 farad cap and replacing the old disro block with a new fused one. I have the two gauge wire fused with a 125amp ANL fuse 12" from the battery. How exactly should I wire this system when my amps require a 60amp fuse for the 500/1 and a 40amp fuse for the 300/4? If you guys could send me a diagram I would be forever greatfull (malbonese@hotmail.com). Thank you guys so much!

Here's a link to a diagram I made. Could you guys tell me if anything should be changed. Keep in mind that the distro block has a 60amp fuse for the 500/1 and a 40amp fuse for the 300/4. Thanks guys!

Well I only had one concern. I read somewhere on here that you shouldn't fuse the cap or something like that. Can anyone clarify this for me?

If they were talking about putting the fuse between the cap and the amp I would agree. Caps are designed to send out a quick burst of electrons when the curent draw exceds the supply. So if you had a fuse between the amp and the cap it could very easaly blow.

But the cap would only deliver as much as my amp asked for right? Will there any danger to my amp?

GlassWolf would be the best to anwser this and will prob shoot me down in flames, but hear goes !
The 125a fuse 1 ft from the batt is only there to protect the incoming power cable from a short until it reaches your amps and should be rated to the smallest cable coming off the dist block, in your case will be 4 gauge.
Your amps have there own internal fuse protecting them ie: 40a & 60a and as far as the cap goes should be as close as possible to the amp cos it's you are installing it their to smooth out the voltage, so when your amp is pumping out that insane bass the reservoir of stored energy will try and keep the voltage stable for somthing like 10 millionths of a second until it recharges.

hope this helps GK

Thanks Graeme but from what I've been told, JL Audio amps don't have internal fuses. This is why I have a fused distro block with the 60 and 40 amp fuses in it.

I am installing a cd/ radio in a 1993 Ford Explorer. Unfortunatly, the connection has been cut off for the power. There are 6 wires: a large black with green line
blue with red line
solid black
green with yellow line
orange with black line
yellow with black line
Now is the black with green line a ground, same as the solid black one? If so, can I twist this two together? There are only 3 wires from the radio, a red one for power and a blue one for the amplifier and a solid black one for the ground. All the speaker wires have already been connected. Which 2 wires can I connect to?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank You
