I have a kenwood KAC-714 amp 150x 1 at 4ohm 250x 1 at 2ohm in my car powering a 12" sub 400rms DVC 4ohm i had it connected at 4 ohm everything was running great until one day the amp got very hot real quick like in 5 minutes and shut off I dont knoe what went wrong ,Im thinkin that the amp blew out. And before that the left channel RCAinput from the amp didnt work Only the right channel RCA worked. when i hook up the rca jacks only the right one worked. Is not the RCA jacks cause i bought new ones and the same thing happen. And also i hooked up another amp and both the RCA inputs worked. What is wrong with my amp. Can you please help me glasswolf. Thanks
ok first, if the sub is dual 4 ohm coils, how did you connect it @ 4 ohms to a mono amp?
the coils should be wired in parallel to present a 2 ohm load to the amp.
is this a bridged 2 channel amp or a mono amp? (I don't keep up with kenwood's model #s)
it does sound like the amplifier failed, and I see a lot of kenwood amps fail when driving subs. for some reason they just don't do it very well. one of the reasons I avoid kenwood products.. reliability.
