are the L5's really good as everyone says they are if so what are they best at like bass or what and if i only bought one of them would it hit pretty hard and sound alright by itself casue i cant afford 2

IMO the only reasonable situation someone should purchase a Kicker L5 or L7 is if they compete in SPL. For the money, there are many other subs out there that will sound better, and/or get louder. tell us your budget, and we'll go from there. Also, what kind of amp are you looking at?
one more thing...would It hurt you to use a period every once in a while?...
