Quick question. Is there a preferred type of glue/solder that is generally used to affix the wire from the sub to the terminal inside the sub box? Maybe some type of epoxy of some sort?
Also, are there any secrets I should know before doing this?

...good old fashioned twisting and some electrical tape will work just fine...
