New member Username: J1110Post Number: 2 Registered: Nov-04 | How can I find out about info on companies like RE, Brahma, etc. I always thought companies like Orion,PPI, Kicker and Rockford were the market leaders. Are there other companies that I should be looking into? |

Help2 Unregistered guest | Orion and PPI got bought out by DEI I think. The Orion stuff is still pretty good, but not like it was..those Art series PPIs kicked major butt as I remember...too bad theyre long gone. Rockford moved most of their production over seas in the late 90's, and now theyre just average IMO, Kicker still makes good equipment. I just wish they think that square crap through a little more ![]() What happened is, those companies used to be more like what Adire and RE and all the other internet companies are now. When the older companies grew, they became all corporate, and cared less about the product. Theyre mostly living off their "good" names these days. ah well...such is life. |

Soundstream is owned by power acoustik now planet audio belongs to BOSS Kicker is still owned by Stillwater Design, and still based in Stillwater, OK. Most of these are all bigger corporate type companies though, and interested in mass marketing and mass production it seems. Some of the smaller companies are still the high end ones. Zapco Sinfoni Brax Harrison Labs McIntosh Labs (owned now by DCM, Inc. parent company of Denon and Marantz) Resonant Engineering Image Dynamics Digital Designs Treo Rainbow DyunAudio Morel Crystal Arc Audio USAmps companies like these are the high end now if you're after audiophile grade gear for a car. Most are smaller companies, still dedicated to the consumer more than how many products they can push on folks through crutchfield, best buy, and circuit city. |
Help2 Unregistered guest | Glass, did you hear about RE buying and using "defective" motors from destijl that were deemed unfit by Onyx audio. That pissed me off, hence I wont use RE now. Too bad none of those companies you listed make HUs ![]() |
