What size box and amp for 4 10" mtx woofers?

I have two twleves right now, but I know very little about what box size and amp to use for my new woofers. I am making my own box. Im not sure whether to make it sealed, or ported. actually, i dont even know what they mean. My woofers are
125rms/250 watts total, and 4 ohm. What is rms? and what size amp should I use? Should I wire in series or parallel? I have my wood cut for my box. It is 31"x22"x16". Is that ok for all four? Please any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jeff

that box size will give you around 6.31cuFT total. what are the specs on your subs? depending on how many cuft each sub needs will let you know if that box size is better for being sealed or ported. sealed tends to have better SQ than a ported enclosure but lacks the SPL benifit. ported gets louder and can even sound better than sealed if done correctly. find out the specs and youll be good to go. the rms rating is the one you want to look at when determining an amp.. 125 x 4 = 500 watts. since your subs are 4ohms a piece (im assuming SVC) then you can wire them down to a 1 ohm load, or a 4 ohm load. consider the JBL bp600.1 or the kicker 600.1 either amp would work great. if you want to search around look for any amp thats stable @ 1 ohm and pushes 500watts (or slightly more) check this out for your wiring http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/wiringwizard.asp?WoofQty=4+woofers&WoofImp =Single+Voice+Coil+-+4+ohms&image.x=12&image.y=7

if those measurements 31" 22" 16" are external the airspace internal is 5.075 cubic ft. the 6.31 cf is if it is internal measurements two inches or two pounds of insulation would bring you back to 6.00 cf if you do need the box volume boost again
