JBfromCHS Unregistered guest | Should i get 2 of the JL Audio w7 13's (really 13 1/2, which are 1000 rms each) or 2 Audiobahn AW1208T 12's (which are 1500 rms each). I know the Audiobahn have more rms but ive heard JL is better quality and I really like the JL's. And also, if i got the w7's, what would be a good amp??? Thanx in advance |
Silver Member Username: Chevy_for_lifePost Number: 144 Registered: Sep-04 | JL is better than audiobahn find 2 1000 watt amps cuz if you find a 2000 watt amp its prolly gonna be pretty pricey |
adsf Unregistered guest | the JL is a much better sub. you could get a JL 1000/1, a KX1200.1, a JBL bp1200.1, or something like that to run it. audiobahns are just a waste of cash. how much SPL are you looking for here? because a single 13w7 in the right box can do ~150dB! and the JL's are very expensive (like $800 for a 13w7 retail). you may wanna look at adire brahma's, Imaging Dynamics IDmax's, or RE X.X.X.'s. they are right up there w/ the JL w7's as far as quality, but nowhere near as expensive. |
Bronze Member Username: StanleycPost Number: 61 Registered: Oct-04 | Audiobahns aren't even in the same class as the JL subs. Watt ratings don't mean anything if the subwoofer can't make good use of the power given to it. 1500watts on an audiobahn equals a lot of heat and crappy sound. When I mean crappy, I mean really really crappy. So bad, you'll be embarassed to even turn on your system with other people around. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 4969 Registered: Dec-03 | god what a question.. that's like asking if you should buy the McLaren, or get the riced ford escort.. heh JL no question. Look at the Xmax alone between the two. you've comparing a $900 sub to a $40 sub here. it's not much of a comparison. |
JBofCHS Unregistered guest | Ok, thanx, I knew you all would say JL becuase it is so much better, im just tryin to convince my friend that is like in love with the Audiobahns with 1500 rms (although he's never even heard them) that if he gets those and i get the 2 JL's my system will kick his system's butt. Haha i was goin wit JL all the way, just wanted to prove to my friend |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 168 Registered: Sep-04 | hey stanleyc, you've been misguided. i've done a 153db on a termlab with two aw1208t subs, and yes they sounded great. pull up next to my car and we'll see who is embarassed. however i do agree jl has better build quality than audiobahn but as far as sq, neither are focal. they're street beatin subs, go with the aw1208t's, they're half the price of the 13's and they'll get plenty loud for you |
Bronze Member Username: StanleycPost Number: 67 Registered: Oct-04 | Yea, personally I'm going to go with RE 12's. Just having a hard time find amps for them right now. =) |
ThatGuyYouKnow Unregistered guest | Witch RE 12's? iv got 2 SE's and thinking about 2 04KX600.1 amps (04 Kicker 600.1) perfect match of RMS and I want to do custom work on the shrouds of the amps. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 4996 Registered: Dec-03 | audiobahns can get loud, but they sound like a$$ doing it. the W7 is by far a better SQ sub. Particularly at high excursion. 153 isn't bad, but I've seen a single W7 hit in the 148+ range, so it's still not saying much, and trust me.. the W7s will embarrass anything audiobahn makes, by a long shot. Particularly when you start looking beyond mere SPL and start looking at SQ and reliability. SPL isn't everything. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 4997 Registered: Dec-03 | the aw1208t has 18mm one-way Xmax, and less surface area than a 13W7 with it's 32mm Xmax. You really think the audiobahns will be louder, huh? keep in mind the "1500 watt" power handling of the aw1208t is strictly a thermal rating, too. It's a horribly inefficient speaker design, and requires far more power than it should for what it can really do. |

Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 177 Registered: Sep-04 | oh my god, lets stop this audiobahn battle, we all know they are an imported substandard brand. but, I WILL BUILD A SPL CAR WITH AUDIOBAHN SUBS AND KILL W7'S, i'll use 12"IMMORTAL QUAD COIL WOOFS, ANYONE WITH 12"W7'S IS WELCOME TO CHALENGE ME. PEOPLE CAN TALK ALL THE SH!T THEY WANT ABOUT #'S BUT I PUT THEM UP. i'm not a big jl fan as you can see yes the jl has long a vc, but what good does that do when the motor is clearly undersized and it travels out of the gap anyways. W7's arent so great. neither jl or audiobahn make a sub that i'd jump up and down about. so lets drop the whole which one is better, duhh wahh. and glass, bro, dude, friend, come on man, how many spl cars have you built using jl's and audiobahns? i've built dozens. like i said, i completing respect your opinion and acknowledge your vast amount of technical experiences in this field, but bro, i'm tellin ya the audiobahns will get louder than you know bro. also their spl5000 amp is no slouch either. you mentioned a 148w/ one w7 13, i've seen 160 with one immortal audiobahn. come on man...cut them some slack |
Bronze Member Username: DeathshadowPost Number: 97 Registered: Oct-04 | They sound like a wet f@rt while doing it though... |
Gold Member Username: Its_bacon12Hfl, Ny Usa Post Number: 1026 Registered: Dec-03 | well if we're goin on numbers here, diamond audio hit 169 dB with ONE SINGLE 10 INCH sub it all depends on the application you're using...SQ setup, a w7 will easily hit 145-148, let alone spl? or outlaw? hmmm...i wonder what a w7 could do outlaw ...oh the possibilities but zacdavis, given the same application, the w7 will obliderate any audiobahn throw to compete with it |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5080 Registered: Dec-03 | believe whatever you like. there is no point in arguing with you about this. you'll believe what you like regardless of the imperical data presented. |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 178 Registered: Sep-04 | agreed |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 179 Registered: Sep-04 | but first just one last comment about this audiobahn thing and then lets drop this issue, hey bacon, say what you want about which sub is louder, i've built and installed over 30 w'7 enclosers and many audiobahns as well. i build spl vehicles. i am the midwest regional champion, the wisconsin state champion in multiple classes, wisconsin state record holder, and at world finals in nov., i will be world champion, so maybe you shouldn't just shrugg off my "opinion" of what is loud, because i happen to know first hand waht is the loudest car i have built used two 9915 DigitalDesign quad2ohm subs and 8 spl3000d amps, i pulled consistent 167's on the termlab. thats all, i just wanted to brag a little. finally, never make your final judgment of somethin from what you read, i go by real world testing, hands on, know what i mean? ok though, let this be the last post about how good audiobahn is, cause we all know they arent anywhere near the best, so since we all agree, lets kill it |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5083 Registered: Dec-03 | just as a point of reference, Xmax for an Immortal 12" is 14.5mm. Street price looks to be about $250-260 US for one. From the psecs, it looks like it's designed to be competition for an Alpine type-R or similar, but it's certainly not going to beat an RE triple X, a Brahma, or even a 12W7, all of which have at least 28mm one-way of excursion, with equal surface area. It's a matter of physics. The sub won't be able to move as much air, which means it won't attain as high an SPL. Where was this 160dB single 12" AB sub metered anyway? was this outlaw class? was it on a termlabs mic? what type of vehicle and enclosure? |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 180 Registered: Sep-04 | ab did a 170's with one 15, read all you want glass but i've used them all and i know whats loud, yes the re and brahma will displace more than the immortal but the jl is so underdampened its not even funny, i thought this thread was dead, lets start a new one under "one sub how loud" |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5096 Registered: Dec-03 | this thread is dead now. you just proved quite plainly that you know absolutely nothing at all about SPL. you've just essentially disproved any credibility you may have had, with anyone. "170s" (174) is the SPL world record at present in sanctioned events. It sure as hell wasn't done with a single fifteen from audiobahn with an 18mm Xmax. When you learn a bit more about the real world of car audio, and not what you think you know from reading websites or hanging around some local Best Buy, come back and start posting. Bye zac. |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5097 Registered: Dec-03 | By the way, good job avoiding every question I asked that related to validating your statements. Do you know anything about SPL events or classes for sanctioned competitions? "wow that's loud! my ears hurt!" doesn't mean it's automatically in the 170s. |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 183 Registered: Sep-04 | hey dumbf@ck, i'm an spl champion and record holder, where do get OFF tellin me i know nothing, your the guy that thinks xmaxx is the only thing that matters in spl. DUH...secondly your the idiot if your tryin to say that american bass didnt do a 170.1 with one 18"quad coil woofer, also team db warriors do consistent 174's with only two DD woofers http://www.termpro.com/asp/competitorstats.asp?Competitor_ID=22065&Season=2004 so wake up dude, this aint 1990's anymore, we're louder than you've ever been. check my stats on www.soundoff.org, i hold more than one record and i'll be #1 in the world at usaci world finals. you've really pizzed me off by discrediting my knowledge for the sport, go ahead and try to keep impressing all these ecoustics surfers while i'm proving the world that i have the loudest car in 901-1800 superstock and the loudest in 0-1000 pro stock. get real glass, i cant beleive your talkin smack just because i'm louder than you, i mean sh!t, i'm not talkin crap about u just because your car is faster than mine and 1 more thing XMAXX MEANS NOTHIN IF THE WOOFER'S SUSPENSION AND MAGNET STREGNTH ARE NOT IN HARMONY. OF AAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL PEOPLE............YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5099 Registered: Dec-03 | actually you claimed 170s with a single fifteen. Then you changed brands and sub sizes. Being able to pay installers or "own" a company doesn't mean you know anything about the physics of car audio though, or what does or doesn't work. I've known plenty of shop owners who make decent money, and don't know an amplifier from a jar of jam. I'm curious to know what certifications and degrees you hold related to this field as an installer? |
Silver Member Username: Zacdavis~Post Number: 191 Registered: Sep-04 | i didnt change brands, your the idiot who doesnt recognise the abreviation "AB", it stants for american bass, not audiobahn, its not my fault you dont know the difference. and hey dumb@ss, i've been an installer for 11 years, and guess what, i'm still installing fulltime, i only have one part time installer. what the hell is your problem, are you pissed because there is someone else on this forum that knows a thing or two besides you? get off your soapbox assh0le. i'm the one breakin his back everyday doin remote starts, alarms, installin radios, and all the other car audio related sh!t. i've been installing hydraulics for 10 years as well. and yes we at Porkys hydraulics broke the world record in the two pump class. i learned from the best. and now i'm one of them. see thats the difference between you and i. if there is somethin to learn i listen, unlike you who just wants to be a know it all. you must be the biggest loser to just sit on the internet and diss on people, i never dissed you so why u makin me a target, are you havin a bad day or what? |
Gold Member Username: GlasswolfNorthWest, Michigan USA Post Number: 5111 Registered: Dec-03 | No, the actual reality is you just can't admit when you're wrong, like you have been throughout this thread. Go back to installing for best buy where you belong. I have no problem with people who really do know what they're talking about, and I can name several on this board. You're not one of them, and all I see you do is offer people misinformation and misguided opinions. Do whatever you like. I really don't care. when you grow a pair, and get tired of name calling on the internet, let me know. |

I've been dealing with both personal illness and a death in the family, so I've been in a pretty sour mood. I apologize here and now for dragging this on as long as I have. I'll be polite at this point and step out of this, and leave any final thoughts to Zac. see ya in the other threads. no hard feelings I hope. on another note, you're just across the lake there in WI.
