hi. my 1st time on this site. really stuck at findin a cable that will connect my JVC digital camcorder to my pc. the camcorder has a DV out socket. My pc only has USB connections at moment. I originally had a cable supplied with the camcorder but have lost it. Everybody i ask says u cant connect DV straight to USB??? is that true? Now im thinking of buyin a firewire card for my pc - will that solve the problem? will it also allow me to transfer video from camcorder to pc? thanx
No, I don't think firewire-to-USB is feasible. I use firewire-to-firewire for this, and so far it has worked 100% fine. I run on:
- PC that came with firewire card. - Windows XP - Cheapest "4 to 6" firewire cable I found. - Sony Handycam DCR-TRV-15E
For me, it was just to plug it in. All video editors I use automatically recognize camera. Since I have a Pentium4 2.8 MHz, conversion to MPEG is realtime.
