I picked up a one in two out coaxial splitter from my local Home Depot. I have a coaxial line running from my satellite dish to the wall in my family room. I hooked up the dish main line to the splitter, then ran one cable from the splitter out to the dish box and another cable off of the splitter to another room. The problem is my satellite box will not display my local channels from the cable after the splitter. This is true for both cables running out of the splitter.
When I took the splitter out and ran the cable directly to the box everything is fine.
I did some research and found that I was using a TV/Cable TV splitter for 5-900MHz signals. Apparently I need a 900-2150MHz splitter for the higher frequency satellite systems.
Does this solve my problem? What is a tansponder?

A transducer will step up the frequency to the 900-2150 range.
