I'm looking to pay about $4 or under per pair of banana plugs. Ebay seems to have some good options as well as some websites like Lenexpo.
Brands I've seen in the price range:
Atlona
http://www.lenexpo-electronics.com/msg_search.php?text=AUDIO%20CONNECTORS

NXG
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem%26item%3D5878382124%26&sspagename= STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT%26

eks bfa http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaster.cfm?Category=Connectors

Anything I should look at closely or are they pretty much all the same?

Am I going to cheap?

I've looked at Parts Express before, http://www.partsexpress.com/webpage.cfm?&Webpage_ID=3&DID=7&CAT_ID=39&ObjectGrou p_ID=108&SO=2

Why are these better than the ones I posted above?

I'm under the assumption that solid brass & 24K coated is the standard for a good plug.

Any of these have better ease of use than the others?

i use radio shacks solderless nanner plugs. I forget what i paid, but i know for a fact that it was under 4 bucks a pair. I dont see much difference in the multi million dolla plugs to these from radio shack,

Cheapest in gold plated is $4.29 and crimp on. Not looking to crimp.

Anyone else have an opinion?

Chris: I use the compression type banana plugs from Parts Express for my 10 AWG wire. These hold reasonably well if you get them tight. Your basically correct gold plating over brass is a good standard for economy plugs, which these are. They(Parts Express) also have the "set screw" type which are even better as far as holding tension, and these are what I normally buy, but I wanted to try the compression type as I have never used them before. Berny is right PartsExpress.com will be your best bet for decent economy plugs.

For those that care,
I purchased 10 pair of Nakamichi banana plugs from a seller in HK. Should be here in a few weeks. I paid $3/pr shipped.

For those that care, I recently purchased both Atlona and Nakamichi banana plugs.

Atlona are total garbage. Some jackets do not even screw far enough before jamming (on nothing...), to actually push the pin up to lock the plug in place. The metal they are made of is extremely stiff and brittle, and I broke one the day I got them, after realizing the only way I'd get them to lock was to expand the tips with a screw driver first. The metal is chalky white in colour, under a very shitty gold-plating.

DO NOT BUY THESE CRAPPY ATLONA PLUGS. Or if you do, buy mine, I have 7 and one broken one that still works ;)

As for the Nakamichis, they are the exact opposite of the Atlonas: Very beautiful to look at, easy to thread, easy to secure, with easily-expanded tip for locking. The gold plating is top notch. They look quite a bit nicer in person than they do in pictures; unscratched and golden orangey. These are a steal from cnplug and other in Hong Kong selling via eBay. Highly recommended.

I though I'd post this as I purchased both sets at the same time, and feel ripped off with the Atlonas and very pleased with the Nakamichis, which I just purchased another pair of.

Ok.... Let me explain why I like the Monster Plug QuickLock design. Simple:

Symmetry beautiful in a design.... and if you fray those wires out over a Monster Quicklock connector just right.... you are providing an even balanced current signal to your amplifier. Do this and you will be happy with the results... no clipping no imbalance. Also make sure that the cables lengths from each opposing channel are the same.... so that the impedance is equal.... just a good idea... if you're coiled up extra is more than 50 feet you may experience a signal loss due to communism!

Hi Chris, I live in CA. Also I bought nakamichi plugs from http://www.nakamichiplug.com/.

You are right. The quality is very good. And the parcel is registered.
But I got the plugs after 15 days. I think it is delayed in customs. Although I didn't pay any duty fees.
I bought this type of Nakamichi plugs.

Hello,
A banana plug is one of several methods used to terminate your speaker wire.
you can still use bare speaker wire, but banana plugs add convenience and some believe it improves the electrical transmission between the wire and what ever component you are connecting to. Convenience is a big plus with banana plugs. They are easily plugged into the receiver. This is great because most people have a receiver that is tough to access and it can be awkward trying to install with bare wire.

I ordered and paid for 48 plugs from a site in HK called www.nakamichiplug.com. I made 2 mistakes: 1, not filing a dispute with paypal before 45 days was up - they basically told me where to go - which was anywhere but near them! 2, I ordered my plugs from this site. I have sent 8 emails, no response. The plugs haven't even shipped. So I would advise NOT ordering anything from this site. Hopefully this post will help someone else avoid making the mistakes I did.

Is the Nakamichi plug website actually affiliated with Nakamichi or one of those shady dealers who uses a reputable name to scam people?

Since to my knowledge Nakamichi does not manufacture banana plugs, these are likely manufactured in China and outlaw branded with the Nakamichi label. I can only speak about my own ebay buying experience which was painless. The plugs work well and fit & finish are good. This was a good purchase for me, and I see no reason to pay more for such a product.

I also ordered and paid from the same site (www.nakamichiplugs.com) but those paid goods was never sent.
When I've sent a mail to sales@nakamichiplug.com to ask if they will send the goods to my country I 've got imediately answer with sugestion to pay in a bank account. When I told them that I've paid with Paypal and i've asked when will they send the plugs, they never respond again to that mail or at the next ones, sent on the following 3 weeks...
After those 3 weeks of no answers, I've opened a Paypal dispute for that.

Sorry to hear of anyone getting ripped off!

I myself am getting ready to order another batch of them and noted that they have been re-branded under the name "Sewell" and are now shipping through Amazon.com. This seems the safest route to order these through. The link is below:

Sewell is not rebranded Naka... Is a separate company who besides other products, make a few banana plugs models...

I think that Sewell is sourcing their plugs from the same folks that are putting out the "Nakamichi" brand of plugs.

As an update.:
The company paid Trolls seem to be looking for vindication.
Yes I did get my plugs - something in the order of 4 months after ordering them(I do not believe they were sent the first time, it was only after my post on here did I get some kind of response). The plugs are cheep cheep and would not have ordered had I known the quality and do not recommend doing business with this company.

To Danny / Oxygen200000 : I am sorry that we can't ship the parcel to Romania by registered air mail. Because there are over 30% of parcels shipped to Romania is lost. If the parcel was lost. I have to refund the money to buyer.
The orders comed from Romania is RARELY. But I got six orders comed from Romania at the same day. This is anomalous. So I have to recommend these buyers to change the shipping method. It is safe to buyer and seller if the parcel shipped by DHL. but some buyer reject DHL and have to refund.

Please note: The money only returned to buyer's PayPal account. It is not bank account. So if you paid by credit card. You may be have to contact PayPal to withdraw money from PayPal.

Amazon.com search on "GLS" or "Sewell" and "banana"
They both also have good spade connectors, too.

What I have trouble finding is cheap, good RCA connectors for DIY IC cables

Best compromise I've found so far is on parts-express, the Rean RCA plugs.
