The Case for UST Projectors
While large flat panel TVs are getting even larger, they typically top out at about 100 inches, and the good ones are still pretty pricey. Meanwhile a UST (Ultra Short Throw) projector has many of the benefits of a TV including built-in streaming apps and built-in speakers, while raising the screen size up to a truly cinematic 120 or even 150 inches. Unlike a traditional projector, a UST only needs to be a few inches from the wall in order to create that huge image, and if you project on a wall or use a motorized screen, your “TV” virtually disappears when not in use.
As with many electronics components, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great days to get deals on UST projectors, but don’t be lured in by low prices on low performance projectors. If you shop around you can actually get a great deal on a UST projector that’s worth owning, not just one that’s “on sale.” And many of these deals go live early. Our partner ProjectorScreen.com already has several of their Black Friday deals live now, and they also offer a “Black Friday price guarantee” in case the price does drop even further the day after Thanksgiving. By buying it now, you know it’s in stock and available and if it does go even lower, just let them know and they’ll credit the difference.
Why Spend More on a UST Projector?
This year’s best Black Friday UST deals are on models that were first released in 2022 or 2023. While they offer exceptional performance, they’re not the absolute newest models. Of course, you can pay a premium for the latest versions. Discounts are sometimes available on those, but they won’t be as steep as the discounts on projectors that have been on the market a year or more. Also, if you’re willing to go for a single-laser UST projector rather than a triple-laser one, you can save a bit and still get excellent picture performance.
All Black Friday UST deals suggested here are on brand new factory-sealed projectors with full factory warranties (not used, refurbished or open-box).
Best Triple Laser UST Deals for Black Friday 2024
Formovie Theater – $2249 (Save $1250)
Winner of the 2022 and 2023 UST Showdown competitions, the Formovie Theater offers triple laser lighting, exceptional color accuracy and saturation and exquisite 4K detail. It originally sold for $3499 but was normally discounted to $2999. This week, you can pick one up for just $2249 with free shipping. Why so cheap? Its replacement, the Formovie Theater Premium just came out. The new model features Google TV rather than the original model’s Android TV platform. Android TV streaming isn’t quite as robust as Google TV and lacks Netflix. However, you can always hook up an Apple TV or Fire TV Stick for streaming if you want to stream from Netflix. Stock is limited and when they’re gone, they’re gone!
Hisense PX2 Pro – $1999 (Save $1500)
Like the Formovie Theater, this triple laser UST projector is not a new 2024 model. It was released about 16 months ago as the Hisense flagship UST projector and was only recently replaced with the PX3 Pro. But by getting last year’s top model, you can save about $1500. The PX2 Pro is available this week for $1999 with free shipping. The PX2 Pro finished second in last year’s UST Showdown and offers excellent color accuracy and contrast. Grab a deal on it while you can.
Nexigo Aurora Pro – $2,299 (Save $700)
The Nexigo Aurora Pro is actually a brand new model for 2024. It is a triple laser UST with excellent performance and 2400 lumens of brightness. It impressed the judges at the 2024 UST Showdown – it tied for second place and was particularly strong with black levels and shadow detail. The only real drawback with the Nexigo Aurora Pro is that it does not include built-in streaming, so you’ll want to budget a little extra ($30-$50) for a nice 4K capable streaming stick from Amazon or Roku, or splurge for an Apple TV ($189). It’s on sale right now for $2,299 with free shipping ($700 below list).
Best Single Laser UST Projectors for 2024
Hisense PL1 – $1499 (Save $1,000)
Like the PX2 Pro, the Hisense PL1 is last year’s model, and this allows you to save $1,000 off the previous price. It offers 2200 Lumens and has Android TV build in for streaming apps. IT performed well at last year’s UST Showdown and was lauded by Chris Eberle at Secrets of Home Theater and HiFi for its outstanding value. And that was at its previous price of $2500. Now at just $1499 with free shipping, you’ll have more to spend on a high quality screen and maybe even a full surround sound system.
