Bronze Member Username: RcfiddlermanPost Number: 40 Registered: Sep-06 | how much memory is in these fta recievers, becuase if there is only so much, everytime we download a new file were taking up space on that memory so eventually u would think that the reciever would run out of memory space, and so maybe thats what the higher number of ecms are for so that they eventually take all the memory space rendering the reciever full and making it obsolete......is this possible? idonno just give me tv....free tv... |
Silver Member Username: AddtempPost Number: 149 Registered: Oct-07 | If you notice the file size for each bin is almost always the same so there is no sequential increate in memory usage by those file. The question is if they ever be able to unleash full emulation would that file be able to fit in any available receiver ..... |
Bronze Member Username: BernardmiPost Number: 59 Registered: Dec-07 | I do not agree. Each new version grows larger. About a year ago a PGM file was 1 mb in size. The last one that came out was 1.4mb. They indeed grow larger. |
New member Username: Paco123Post Number: 3 Registered: Jan-08 | It appears they increase in size due to the coders updating more new fuctions and hiding the code at new locations within the bin. The more memory used results in the push of sales for new receiver's and decline in support of the old ones. |
Gold Member Username: KirankumarKenya Post Number: 1214 Registered: Oct-07 | just do a factory reset and load new bin |
Silver Member Username: PsychmonsterRhodium MemberAint nuthin ... Post Number: 620 Registered: Jul-06 | does a factory reset eliminate old bins...I think not, old bin is still functional or on flash ..go to system info and old bin is still there after factory reset..if u really are worried about space then do a jtag and wipe your flash completely |
Silver Member Username: ExtremexPost Number: 161 Registered: Nov-07 | Rcfiddlerman, When you load a new bin it overwrites the old one. They do not accumulate in the box. |
Gold Member Username: Hawaiian_timeKanaka freak... Post Number: 1755 Registered: Apr-06 | That's right. Old bins are replaced each time you load a new one. However newer bins are getting bigger and bigger, so it would still be best to have a receiver with more memory or it will end up like the pansat 2500. |
Silver Member Username: VikdamonePost Number: 125 Registered: Jan-08 | Thanks for thinking people, why would anyone have to put an old bin back in to their receiver if all the old bins are still in there. DUMB DUMB DUMB |
Silver Member Username: PsychmonsterRhodium MemberAint nuthin ... Post Number: 626 Registered: Jul-06 | or it will end up like the pansat 2500 . again...so far this "Tin Lizzy" 2500 has performed as well or better than any VS or SV or even Nfusion as far as down time...I have 3 other boxes and this 2500 is the standard so far as to reliabilaty minus the other features of modern boxes |
Gold Member Username: Hawaiian_timeKanaka freak... Post Number: 1756 Registered: Apr-06 | I also have a pansat 2500 and I love it. But manufacturers will claim that because certain receivers have limited memory, they will not support it anymore when bins get bigger. Thank goodness we still have people like Jvvh. |
Gold Member Username: Hawaiian_timeKanaka freak... Post Number: 1757 Registered: Apr-06 | That's one reason why I will not support Pansat anymore, because they gave up much too early on the 2500. |
Silver Member Username: PsychmonsterRhodium MemberAint nuthin ... Post Number: 643 Registered: Jul-06 | I agree...I am PO'd at BL for not supporting the 2 early boxes that made Pansat...its purely monetary but I think it bit em in the azs when they said the 2500 1mb would not support the new bins, and now they are paying for it in lost revenue when the old boxes are still good |
Bronze Member Username: IamdrummingPost Number: 85 Registered: Aug-06 | When was the Pansat 2500 first released? Wasn't it around 5 years ago or more. The 2500 more than paid for itself with free fixes. I don't think Pansat have lost revenue at all. People who have the 2500 got many years of service from them, and they have gone on to buy more current boxes such as the Pansat 250SM or the Pansat 9200HD. You can't claim that any of the manufacturer's (VS, Pansat, etc) boxes will be "supported" forever. As technology increases, so does the need for new boxes. |
Gold Member Username: Hawaiian_timeKanaka freak... Post Number: 1758 Registered: Apr-06 | I agree that receivers weren't meant to last forever, but a lot of people just brought their 2500 not too long before Pansat gave up on them. They lost me as a customer, and also a lot of other people I know. Oh, I forgot to mention. The 3500 is a piece of cr@p also! |
Gold Member Username: DoreenakadjOntario Canada Post Number: 1101 Registered: Dec-06 | when you load in a new bin it's like formating your PC. it bumps the old bin and new bins are put in. |
Silver Member Username: Madflea168Post Number: 175 Registered: Jan-08 | perhaps, they should start to make boxes with expendable memory. |
New member Username: Paco123Post Number: 4 Registered: Jan-08 | Great idea FLEA ! Then no one would have to buy another receiver, just up grade a memory chip which u could plug into without extra costs. But u know the manufactures would never let that happen! |
Gold Member Username: Pulp_fictionPost Number: 1189 Registered: Nov-07 | It's possible now... get away from the korean shitTopboxes and enter the realm of HTCP fully expandable the sky is the limit U can build a v3b and dn HD box for around $400.00 and blow any korean HD hunk of sh!t out of the water... |
Gold Member Username: NydasPost Number: 7777 Registered: Jun-06 | Memory. When I started computing and bought a computer with 16K (NOT 16M) memory, programs were running in that limited space. I remember my first hard drive of 5MB (NOT GB)- about 1981 and a software I bought that could process a vector multiplication of 100 elements of 12 digits in less than 400 microseconds. It has been in the interest of chip and memory manufacturers to continue supporting use of extra memory for trivial tasks and Microsoft is no exception. It is no surprise that the receiver manufacturers would also go that route. Pansat 2500's memory of 1MB is more than sufficient to accommodate software capable of 5 times the performance of the current BINs. It would need a rethinking of the process of writing software and discarding "C++" as the tool. Even in a small way, if one removed the Background picture of some of the current BINs of Pansat 2500-2700 conversions, you could accommodate more software - if the programmers knew how to use this memory. Unfortunately, the biggest group of high quality writers are in the "Open" marketplace and are LINUX orientated and LINUX is almost synonymous with C++. I should not have used the word "Unfortunately", because, if the trend for more memory continues, a point will soon come when the Linux people will take over completely and force the total opening out of the Satellite transmissions. If anybody with a computer is able to compile in his own computer a whole BIN with bits which have been spoon fed to him/her over a period of time, and the process is made so easy that a child can do it, what will the big guys do? Take to court thousands of small software writers to court? Take millions of home owners to court for literally creating their own BINs and adding them to their Linux receivers? I looked at a school project my grandson of seven did - all from downloading bits from different parts of the Internet and putting it together - texts, pictures and even URLs and an attached home burnt CD with a pps slide show! A 10-year old (friend's son) is producing a proper movie of their recent family trip on a cruise ship - composing from home videos and tourism material with music and commentaries. Given the right tools, the 13-16 year old kids of 2009 will throw whole of Nagravision open. |
Silver Member Username: VikdamonePost Number: 136 Registered: Jan-08 | Maybe, DN should turn to religion and try to stupify the people with arcane ideas and about morality and how we will go to hell, clearly it will be their only hope Nalin. On to the next inquisition! Take back science with religion and end free tv well with commercials is it still free? |
Gold Member Username: NydasPost Number: 7786 Registered: Jun-06 | If the evangelical fervour of some of the some of the preachers I see on (flipping through) the TV , I would not be surprised if there is wholesale conversion of all DN/BEV personnel and then we can all have free TV - except that all channels will show religion!! If we take back science and religion, it will be a field day for commercialism and you would never know if you are watching TV or a commercial. No, I think instead of an inquisition we need a USA Senate inquiry or a new case before Supreme Court of Canada with more liberal and just interpretation of the word "Freedom" by the judges. |
